Dispatch On The Run – Box 2 Posted in: Dispatch, Reviews
Dispatch is a mystery subscription box where you need to unravel the mystery around a murder. The box gives the same puzzle solving experience of an escape room that you can do at home either on your own or with friends.
Each month you are sent a new Dispatch box where you solve a piece of the mystery. The story is told through several boxes, and presently they are doing the On The Run Series. In On The Run the story has everything you would hope for in a good mystery story – murder, romance, and scandal.
Box 1 of the On The Run series by Dispatch is our favorite subscription box thus far of 2018, and in box 2 the story continues. While our review of box 2 will not contain any spoilers for box 2, it will contain spoilers for box 1. As such if you want to learn about the Dispatch escape boxes read our spoiler-free review that was done for box 1.
SPOILER FREE REVIEW OF BOX 2
In the second box of the On The Run series, you get a detective letter, foreman’s notebook pages, Copper Mine safety report, newspaper articles, Jame’s note with puzzle and a copper coin. Taking off from the box one where you figure out Jame’s location in box two you are trying to solve the mystery of a mine explosion that takes places where you believe James still is. The mine that exploded belongs to Victoria’s Family (Jame’s deceased wife who he is accused of murdering).
In box 2 you need to solve the mystery of the explosion and see if it might have been done by James or figure out what is going on as it can’t all be a coincidence.
After playing the first On The Run, box 2 felt much more streamlined as you learn in box one how the game works. We would suggest having box 1 around when solving box 2 as you might need access to previous information.
Box 2 was just as enjoyable as box one, and our group solving the mystery had a wonderful time working on the puzzle. Working as a team of 6 people there was enough puzzles and material to divide it up so that there was something for everyone to do. We approached the puzzles by diving everyone into mini-teams and reporting our findings, but everything could be solved solo over a longer period of time. For a group, it took approximately one hour to solve box 2.
Box 2 was a huge hit with everyone playing, and we are all excited to see the next chapter of the story.
